General Description

This is a career opportunity with the Supervisor of Elections Office in Information Technology. The applicant must have the potential to grow into a more advanced technical role over time. Responsibilities include maintaining office technology, supporting IT infrastructure, assisting with asset management and budgeting, and providing secondary support for election operations. Includes writing standard operating procedures and the ability to read and understand Florida Statutes. Assist with the setting up of the early voting sites and warehouse projects. Must be detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to multitask and work independently as well as in a team. This is a fast-paced position in a constantly changing environment. Must be available to report to the office outside of normal business hours in the event of an emergency or otherwise urgent matter.

Essential Functions

Information Technology Support

  • Maintain computers, hardware components, imaging, diagnostics, and lifecycle tasks.
  • Provide desktop support to staff and resolve routine technical issues.
  • Configure computers, printers, and peripheral devices in accordance with office standards.
  • Perform routine system updates and monitor logs, reports, and maintenance activity.
  • Maintain office network connectivity and support related equipment under IT direction.
  • Support the operation of office technology systems, phone equipment, and peripheral devices.


Asset Management & Budget Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the technology asset inventory, including equipment condition, location tracking, and disposal records.
  • Contribute to the development and tracking of the technology budget for purchases, licensing, and maintenance.
  • Monitor service agreements and vendor contracts and coordinate routine communication with vendors.


Election Operations Support

  • Participate in election equipment preparation, functional checks, routine maintenance and training staff and poll workers. 
  • Support tabulation processes, canvassing activities, training classes, and election audits as assigned.
  • Contribute to early voting and precinct setup/tear-down, including organizing and transporting election supplies.
  • Prepare materials, signage, and facility access components used in poll worker training.
  • Provide GIS-related support by preparing data or mapping updates under guidance from election staff.
  • Participate in voter outreach activities as scheduled.
  • Perform warehouse tasks, routine mail pickup/drop-off, and petition verification work in accordance with procedures.


Administrative and General Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures for assigned duties.
  • Carry out special projects and assignments as directed by the Supervisor of Elections.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable Election Laws, Rules, Forms, and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Associate’s degree, preferably in Information Technology, network management or equivalent, and two (2) or more years of progressively responsible work experience in computer or technology-related fields that requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • A combination of education, experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.
  • Requires an intermediate level of IT skills.


Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).  
  • Experience with routine software maintenance updates on computers and reviewing reports and logs.
  • Experience with set-up and configuration of computers, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Effectively work with the public.  
  • Effectively work in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and management of priorities.
  • Knowledge to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with elected officials, staff, poll workers, vendors and the public.
  • Understand and implement Florida Statutes as they apply to election laws.


Other Minimum Requirements 

  • Must possess and maintain a FL driver’s license in good standing.
  • As this position has emergency management responsibilities, applicant must be able to report to work within 30 minutes should an emergency arise.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed during an election cycle.
  • The job involves occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires a combination of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, and balancing, and on occasion crawling, climbing, kneeling, throwing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping and fine manual manipulation, and occasional pushing, pulling, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may require exposure to adverse and/or severe weather conditions.
