Network Administrator II

About the Job: In this position you will install, maintain, and monitor the operation of the organization's local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN). You will also lead strategic planning efforts, capacity planning, functional, and technical design of enterprise systems, and resolution of complex problems. 


This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

Work Conditions: Schedule is generally 7:30a - 4:30p. This position is eligible for teleworking 3 days a week when scheduling permits. Telework flexibility is subject to change.

As a Network Administrator II, you will:
  • Operate and maintain a secure network routing, switching and wireless infrastructure, and be able to troubleshoot VPN and Voice over IP issues
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment, software, and circuits
  • Respond to incident and request tickets; resolve within agreed upon SLA (service level agreements)
  • Monitor and proactively discover events that may negatively impact IT services utilizing NetBrain and SolarWinds monitoring software
  • Implement required changes in compliance with the IT change management process
  • Participate in problem management discussion to determine root causes of network problems
  • Ensure network system configurations delivers or exceeds agreed availability and reliability
  • Maintain multiple (owned and leased) WAN (wide area network) circuits
  • Review system logs and alerts; respond according to documented procedures
  • Analyze performance trends, identify workflows or technology gaps, and recommend changes to improve the quality and efficiency of networks, systems, and security
  • Utilize enterprise-level thinking to enhance the security and stability of the network environment
  • Support junior administrators in troubleshooting and provide feedback
  • Implement ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) based processes and procedures; promote standard operating procedures to ensure key performance indicators are achieved
  • Assist with the development of processes and procedures to meet or exceed operational SLA (service level agreements )with the business partners

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Routing protocols such as: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
  • Operations, maintenance, and security of multiple Cisco Platforms (ISR1000, ISR 4300 series, and ISR 4400 series routers, along with 9K series, 3600 series switches)
  • Extensive experience in security posturing through Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE)
  • Strong understanding of Access Control List
  • Wireless networking sustainment, operations, and security (Access Point and Wireless Controller)
  • Working knowledge of Voice over IP telephony operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Proper customer collaboration and engagement techniques

Ability to:
  • Quickly troubleshoot and identify the cause of network or boundary service interruptions
  • Monitor network and wireless infrastructure for optimal operation and utilization
  • Solve problems that are self-discovered or elevated from Tier-I/II
  • Complete assigned tasks and duties with minimal direction and guidance
  • Work as a teammate within and across functional teams to meet common objectives
  • Manage multiple tasks independently and prioritize to meet business needs; operate in an IT Service Management, specifically ITIL based, environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally orally and in writing with customers and technical support

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, network engineering, information management, or a related field. 
  • Three years of full-time experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and engineering support of LAN/WAN (local area network/wide area network) systems

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret Network Design documents and recommend changes for proper implementation into the current infrastructure
  • Experience working in a hybrid environment of on-premises, co-located, and cloud-based services
  • Experience working with Cisco Identity Services Engine, Secure Sockets Layer, and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Possess or obtain upon hire a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification 
  • Possess or obtain upon hire CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) Security+ certification or equivalent
  • Possess a ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation certification
  • Possess a Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification
  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
