Job Description:
Job Description
As Senior Engineering Manager for the Scalable Architecture Team, you will own the people leadership, delivery accountability, and operational execution of one of insightsoftware's most strategically invested engineering groups — the team responsible for modernizing the Certent Equity Management (CEM) platform and defining its technical future. Reporting to the Sr Director of Engineering, you will manage a high-caliber team — a mix of the organization's most senior and longest-tenured engineers alongside newly hired talent bringing modern cloud, data, and AI expertise — providing the organizational clarity, delivery discipline, and stakeholder communication that enables world-class technical work to get done.
The Scalable Architecture Team is a highly-focused, investment-funded team explicitly shielded from day-to-day client delivery commitments. Its mission is to re-architect the CEM platform — an enterprise SaaS product serving 1,200+ global clients — for cloud-native scale, modern BI integration, and long-term engineering velocity. You will partner daily with the Solution Architect, who owns the technical direction; your ownership is the team's execution, outcomes, and organizational alignment.
You will also serve as a key driver of the organization's AI strategy — accelerating the team's already strong AI tooling usage to drive faster delivery and higher-quality outcomes, while bringing the experience and credibility to contribute meaningfully as the organization begins building AI natively into the CEM product.
Responsibilities
Delivery Ownership & Accountability
- Own the outcomes of the Scalable Architecture Team — not just the process. Hold team members accountable for delivery against the modernization roadmap, with clear milestones, owners, and follow-through.
- Translate the Solution Architect's technical roadmap into a sequenced, resourced delivery plan; actively manage priorities, surface trade-offs, and keep the team focused on the highest-impact work.
- Communicate status clearly and fluently — accountable up to the Sr Director and VP, and across to Application, QA, and Reporting/BI vertical leaders — with accurate, actionable narratives.
- Identify blockers, dependencies, and risks early; drive resolution through direct ownership or escalation.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Day-to-day management for the Scalable Architecture Team: Solution Architect, Principal Application Engineers, Principal Cloud & DB Engineers, Sr Application & Automation Engineers.
- Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and retention; partner with the Sr Director on headcount planning for the vertical.
- Run effective team cadences — sprint planning, retrospectives, 1:1s — creating the operational rhythm that lets a senior team do its best work without unnecessary overhead.
- Shield the team's capacity from external pull; escalate conflicts to the Sr Director when delivery-team demands threaten the modernization roadmap.
- Foster a high-trust, high-accountability culture that attracts and retains senior engineering talent and reflects insightsoftware's core values.
AI Strategy & Adoption
- Ensure the team operates against an AI-first development standard: champion ≥50% AI-authored PR targets and ≥95% AI code review adoption as organizational minimums.
- Accelerate the team's use of agentic AI development tooling — pushing beyond baseline adoption into workflows and practices that measurably improve delivery speed and engineering quality.
- Serve as an internal advocate for AI-first engineering practices; influence how AI tooling is used across verticals, drawing on the SA Team as a model.
- Bring credible AI/ML product experience to the table as the organization begins to explore native AI capabilities within the CEM platform — including LLM integration, agentic workflows, and AI-powered product features.
- Partner with the Solution Architect and Sr Director to develop a forward-looking point of view on where and how AI gets built into CEM, sequenced alongside the broader modernization roadmap.
Cross-Functional Alignment
- Serve as the primary interface for SA Team dependencies with Application, QA, and Platform Integrations verticals — owning the alignment, not just the communication.
- Represent the SA Team's priorities and progress in engineering leadership forums alongside peer Sr Engineering Managers.
- Partner with the Sr Director on org-wide engineering investment sequencing and standards for the Platform & Architecture vertical.
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of software engineering experience in enterprise SaaS environments, with 3+ years in engineering management leading Principal-level or Staff-level ICs.
- Hands-on background in Microsoft technology stack — C#, .NET, and Azure cloud services — with sufficient depth to engage in platform architecture and modernization discussions.
- Demonstrated AI/ML background — hands-on experience building with or alongside AI/ML systems, LLMs, or agentic tooling, with a track record of driving AI adoption across experienced engineering teams.
- Proven ability to lead agentic AI tooling adoption programs — not just evangelism, but structured change management that measurably shifts how senior engineers work.
- Strong delivery ownership mindset: experience organizing team priorities, setting clear accountability structures, and driving outcomes to completion in environments with high technical complexity.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning for software architecture initiatives, including defining scope, milestones, timelines, and success criteria for cross‑functional delivery.
- Fluent communicator — able to translate complex technical workstreams into crisp status narratives for senior leadership and clear action items for peer teams.
- Sufficient technical depth to engage credibly with a Solution Architect and Principal Engineers — you are not the senior technologist on this team, but you can follow architectural trade-offs and represent them accurately.
- Experience with modern software delivery practices: Agile/Scrum, CI/CD pipelines, code review standards, and definition-of-done discipline.
- Experience managing distributed, global teams across multiple time zones.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred
- Direct experience building AI capabilities into enterprise SaaS products — LLM integration, agentic workflows, AI-powered product features, or ML pipelines at production scale.
- Background in platform modernization programs — cloud migration, .NET re-architecture, CI/CD transformation, or database modernization.
- Background in financial services, equity compensation, or adjacent regulated domains.
- Experience in organizations where people management and technical leadership are formally separated — comfortable amplifying strong technical voices rather than competing with them.
The salary range in United States of America for this position is 139,000.00 to 174,000.00 USD Annual.
Your specific offer within this range will be determined by your skills, experience, and qualifications. For non-sales roles, you may be eligible for a bonus. For sales roles, this range includes a commission target.
We are committed to pay transparency and fair compensation practices. If you have questions about our compensation approach, please don't hesitate to ask during the interview process.
