SALARY: (GRADE 76: $4,706.65 monthly – Starting Salary)

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

We are looking to hire a cyber security engineer with an analytical mind and a detailed understanding of cybersecurity methodologies. Cyber security engineers are expected to have meticulous attention to detail, outstanding problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines. In addition, they will assist with the development of cybersecurity/disaster recovery plans, policies, and procedures. The position will be responsible for implementing security protocols, monitoring network acitivity for suspicious behavior, and performing vulnerability assessments.

To ensure success, a cyber security engineer must display an excellent understanding of technology infrastructures using Firewalls, VPN, Data Loss Prevention, IDS/IPS, Web-Proxy, and Security Audits. Top candidates will be comfortable working with a variety of technologies, security problems, and troubleshooting of the network.

 


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Cyber Security, computer science or related qualification.
  • 2 years of work experience with incident detection, incident response, and forensics.
  • Experience with Firewalls (functionality and maintenance), Office 365 Security, VSX, and Endpoint Security.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, Ruby, Node, Go, and/or Power Shell.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • Great awareness of cybersecurity trends and hacking techniques.
  • Minimum of 5 years IT-professional experience supporting IT systems and services
  • Must have patience with working with users with no technical background
  • Excellent customer service skills and helpful attitude
  • Experience working in educational IT environment preferred
  • Must be willing and able to take on-call shifts, after hours and weekends as needed
  • Experienced in making data-driven decisions.
  • Established time management skills with the ability to direct multiple projects simultaneously, including scheduling resources and personnel to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, processes, and best practices, including incident detection and response processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and related technology devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP-based troubleshooting and administration of both wired and wireless networks. Cable tracing experience and extensive network troubleshooting skill is required.
  • Knowledge of physical and software installation and troubleshooting of electronic devices that may be used in administration or school settings.
  • Familiar with server management principles.
  • Administration of identity access management, cloud services, including user administration and SSO.
  • General understanding of firewall administration and configurations.
  • Knowledge of the operation and uses of standard test equipment.
  • Must have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, Windows and Apple operating system environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with emphasis in customer service, including experience handling difficult customers and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to identify issues that impact end users and follow through on resolving problems.
  • Knowledge of security and privacy regulations that govern education including FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading security measures for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks.
  • Troubleshooting security and network problems.
  • Responding to all system and/or network security breaches.
  • Ensuring that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by enabling the appropriate security controls.
  • Participating in the change management process.
  • Testing and identifying network and system vulnerabilities.
  • Daily administrative tasks, reporting, and communication with the relevant departments in the organization.
  • Work to promote excellence.
  • Experience working with network architecture and client server technology.
  • Assist in planning, leading, and overseeing district wide projects.
  • Developing and maintaining Cybersecurity Response and Protocol (CRP) playbook.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing and reaching with hands and arms
  • Frequently requires pushing or pulling and lifting
  • Occasionally requires sitting and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Requires ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by use of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts.
  • Requires use of measuring devices
  • May require assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length
  • Must be able to operate machines, motor vehicles or equipment.
  • Frequently requires working in high, precarious places.
  • May be exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally requires exposure to fumes, airborne particles and/or to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic), with onsite work at construction sites.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NC Driver's License
