PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary objective of this position is to assist in maintaining the County Information Technology infrastructure, which includes but is not limited in scope to the following areas; desktop computers, network servers, networking equipment (wired and wireless), telephone system support, system security and intrusion detection, e-mail systems (including anti-spam and anti-virus), portable multi-media equipment, equipment troubleshooting and repair, other miscellaneous technical assistance to users.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee works with limited supervision. Work is based in the courthouse complex but the employee is responsible for systems in several locations within the County of Wabasha.
Responsibilities include; desktop computers, network servers, networking equipment (wired and wireless), telephone system support, system security and intrusion detection, e-mail systems (including anti-spam and anti-virus), portable multi-media equipment, and equipment troubleshooting and repair.
Employee develops training and instructional materials designed to improve user knowledge and productivity.
To perform this job successfully, the technician must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required; other duties may be required of the technician to successfully complete the mission of Wabasha County IT Department.
Install, administer and maintain all Wabasha County computers including; desktop computers, network servers, networking equipment, and all peripheral computer equipment.
Respond to user questions, resolving operational problems and providing technical assistance as needed in a polite and professional manner.
Assist with the implementation and work with vendors when applicable in the maintenance and user training of any systems and applications including but not limited to specialized database applications, State and Federally sponsored applications (i.e. SSIS, MAXIS, Prism), document imaging, VPN remote access, and web applications.
Maintain security systems (i.e. firewalls, intrusion detection, anti-spam, firewall, password policies), at levels concurrent with industry standards common to a government entity the size and complexity of Wabasha County.
Maintain the county-wide email system.
Maintain the County telephone system.
Assist the IT Director with evaluating equipment needs.
